There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights numerous conveniences in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
